Rags to Riches

RAGS TO RICHES: A Traveling Theatre Troupe for Young Audiences will present "The Gingerbread Boy" on Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the Hayden H. Jones Auditorium at the New Bern-Craven County Public Library. Performances will be held at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Free tickets will be available for children of all ages beginning November 29 at the Children's Services Desk. A Christmas Carol, December 2

  The Friends of the New Bern-Craven County Public Library and the English Speaking Union present Howard Burnham, British Scholar and Actor, reading selection from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol on Sunday, December 2, 2012. 

  There will be two performances in the Hayden H. Jones Auditorium of the New Bern-Craven County Public Library (400 Johnson Street, New Bern), one at 2:30 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. 

  Free tickets are required for admission. Tickets may be obtained from the Circulation Desk at the New Bern-Craven County Public Library beginning November 18, 2012.

2012 Children's Summer Reading Kick-Off Program

Storyteller, Ron Jones will take the audience on an animated and high energy ride with stories and music on Thursday, June 28 at the New Bern-Craven County Public Library.  Two performances at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. will be held in the Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.  The program is geared for children 12 and under.  Tickets are required for children attending the program.  Free tickets will be available in the Youth Services Department beginning Thursday, June 7.

Dream Big...The Places You'll Go!  On Thursday, June 14 the Twin Rivers YMCA Teen Camp will offer a program for kindergarteners through 2nd graders hosted by the New Bern-Craven County Public Library.  The program begins at 2:00 p.m. and will be held in the Hayden H. Jones Auditorium.  Registration is required for this event.  Free tickets are available in the Youth Services Department.

UNC-TV will be on hand at the New Bern-Craven County Public Library on Friday, June 1 for a special children's event. We will be screening the new SUPER WHY! Around the World Adventure episodes and conducting floating meet and greets with Super Why and Woofster! "SUPER WHY," a national PBS program broadcast throughout North Carolina by UNC-TV, has been hailed as a breakthrough preschool series designed to help kids ages 3-6 with the critical skills that they need to learn to read as recommended by the National Reading Panel. The UNC-TV staff and the Youth  Services Dept., along with volunteers will have mask-making/activity stations and rotating screenings. This event will be held in the Hayden H. Jones Auditorium from 9:30 a.m.-12:30p.m. Time Out For Toddlers will also be presented in the Children's Mini Theater at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Due to the death of our friend and longtime co-worker, Jewel Casey, there will be no Time Out For Toddlers on Friday, May 18, so that the Youth Services Staff may attend the funeral services. We apologize for any inconvenience to our patrons. The library will remain open, so please feel free to come and checkout books. We look forward to seeing you next week!

Library Closed and Website Down Jan 16-18

The Library will be closed Monday, January 16, through Wednesday, January 18, for repair work on the library's fire sprinkler system. We will reopen Thursday, January 19 at 9 a.m.
Also, the library's website will be offline January 17 and 18 as we perform much needed maintenance on the web server. Watch this blog for more progress. The links to the catalog in the the right column of this blog will still work.
